SKI CLUB NEWS
The Ski Club goes virtual
Despite the current Covid-19 situation and 2019/20 ski season having come to an early end, the Ski Club has been hosting a variety of events and content on its digital platforms in recent months.
Ski Club Challenges
On the Club’s Instagram page, we challenged followers each week to participate in a variety of fun tasks. From the best ski-themed cakes to the best retro ski gear, we saw some hilarious attempts. The best attempts were judged by Ski Club staff, who awarded a Planks Beanie to the chosen winner. A personal favourite in the office was a follower who took retro ski gear to whole new level by trying on a toddler’s ski suit!
Chemmy Virtual Fitness
For the last month, Ski Club Honorary President Chemmy Alcott has been hosting Ski Club fitness classes for those who want to keep fit during the off season. Her Zoom classes have been so popular with Ski Club members and her social media following that we managed to have 100 participants in one class alone. Each week the former Olympic ski racer led different types of exercises focusing on muscle groups that will help build strength and endurance for the winter season. Although she has finished her classes for the spring, Chemmy will be back in autumn for a pre-season work out series, so watch this space!
You can catch up with each fitness class on the Club’s YouTube channel:
Athlete home workouts
Keeping up with the lockdown fitness theme, GB Snowsport athletes have been showcasing their home workouts during isolation. Ski cross racer Laurence Willows had a step-by-step tutorial on how to do the best core workout at home; telemark star Jaz Taylor taught us a variety of exercises and explained why they’re beneficial for skiing; and Alpine ski racer Reece Bell showed us the importance of doing a variety of sports, to help improve all aspects of skiing. From slack lines to llama trekking, Reece has been keeping busy during the off season.
In the Chalet With... Ski Club Talk Series
The Ski Club has launched a talk series via Zoom called ‘In the Chalet With...’ to cover a variety of subjects and invite guests from around the snowsports industry. Our first talk was with Ski Club Honorary President Chemmy Alcott and the athlete, business leader and acclaimed public speaker Brad Waldron, who covered mental resilience and growth mindset when encountering challenges in life.
Chemmy and Brad discussed psychological techniques and how they’ve used them to overcome adversity in their personal lives. Ski Club members were also brought into the conversation to discuss their personal challenges with Chemmy and Brad during the talk.
