SKI CLUB ZOOMING TO SUCCESS

Club Members gather on Zoom to hear the latest Club news fromour Chairman, Trevor Campbell Davies

Following the success of the virtual SCGB Members’ meeting in spring 2021, Chairman Trevor Campbell Davies hosted a similar meeting over Zoom in March 2022. Back in 2021, Trevor highlighted the cost-cutting measures that kept the Club on steady ground through the pandemic. He noted that, while revenue had diminished, the growth of the Club’s investment portfolio had resulted in a net growth of cash reserves by the close of the 2020 financial year. This year, Trevor could report that almost a full slate of holidays has been run, with only a few lost following the imposition of French border restrictions.

Additionally, the Club’s membership numbers have risen every month since May 2021. This has been driven by a combined membership with Snozone at centres in Basingstoke, Milton Keynes and Castleford, strong results from are launched Platinum Membership insurance package, and the return to snow for many Members. Despite this impressive growth, Member numbers remain short of the Club’s pre-pandemic totals. Questions were raised about the quality of the service offered by the Club, particularly during a difficult period in January 2022. James Gambrill, General Manager, acknowledged these difficulties in a letter to Members issued before the meeting. He explained that a- combination of high staff turnover in the build up to the season and the impact of changing travel restrictions affected the Club’s ability to run holidays and its services. James used the meeting to reiterate his apologies for the difficulty experienced by some Members in contacting the Club during this period. The Ski Club finishes this season in a strong position. We look forward to building on this success over the summer and approach the 2022/23 season with optimism.
