LA PLAGNE TURNS 60
With its 11 unique villages, incredible array of slopes, wide range of accommodation, plus plenty of exhilarating activities, La Plagne has something for everyone…
Like a constellation of 11 glistening stars, La Plagne’s unique villages light up the Paradiski range in the Tarentaise Valley of France. Although each of the 11 villages (ranging from 700m to 2100m altitude) has its own personality, varying from stylish to sporty, they all guarantee an incredible winter holiday in the beauty of the snowy French mountains. This season, La Plagne is celebrating its 60th anniversary; make the most of this renowned ski resort and its 225 km of pistes this winter.
By the time December rolls in, we are all in need of a holiday. And there’s no easier way than booking your holiday with La Plagne’s own travel agency: it is a one-stop shop where you can sort out accommodation, transport, insurance, ski equipment, activities and lift passes.
FOR BEGINNERS…
La Plagne is perfect for beginners with its wide, well-groomed slopes. Start your skiing journey at one of La Plagne’s CoolSki Zones – specific areas with specially designed pistes only for beginners. Here, a ski pass is 32€ a day, and 37€ a day including a beginner’s bib; the pink bibs make those new to the sport stand out, meaning other skiers will take extra care around them. There are also plenty of talented ski schools in La Plagne for those who wish to have some lessons as well.
FOR FAMILIES…
La Plagne is also fantastic for families, especially those with younger children. Booking your stay in La Plagne Aime 2000, Belle Plagne or Montchavin-Les Coches will ensure you are located in a more peaceful part of the valley. Adventurous kids will love the Buffalo Park: here your children are transported to the Wild West, where they can slalom their way through cowboy-themed obstacles. For very young children, of ages 3-5, the Snow Kindergarten in Plagne Bellecôte is perfect with its ski play areas and mini slopes. When choosing accommodation with young families, the new Hotel Club in La Plagne Aime 2000 is a perfect option, with family suites, clubs for children and even a climbing wall. This hotel also tailors to teens as The Teen’s Squ@t is reserved for those up to 18 with game consoles, sofas and tablets, giving them a private space to unwind. For a bonding experience, families could venture to the Deep Nature spa in Belle Plagne, where parents and children can relax in the 170msq water trail outside while gazing over a steamy view of snow-capped mountains. 6-14 year olds can even join their parents for a 20 minute child-parent tandem massage in a double cabin for 88€.
If you are travelling with teens, enjoy La Plagne’s five freestyle zones, snow parks in Montalbert, an airbag in Belle Plagne, and a mini half pipe at Bellecôte. Plagne Centre and La Plagne Aime 2000 also welcome teens in with shops, restaurants, and a lively, bustling atmosphere. Those above 1.3m tall can head to La Plagne’s famous bobsleigh track and zoom down a 1.5km bobsleigh track at 80km/hr on the Giant Spaghetti Bob Raft. At 48€ per person, this is irresistible for the daredevils out there.
FOR ADVANCED SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS…
La Plagne is also a hotspot for the advanced skiers and snowboarders. Head to the harder slopes on the Bellecôte Glacier, ski over the moguls on Ski des Bosses, or try the 2350m of black runs at Le Biolley and off the back of the Grand Rochette. For something more unique, try evening ski touring with Oxygène, where you can climb up to an altitude restaurant for dinner, before skiing back down in the dark with headlamps.
FOR COUPLES…
As La Plagne celebrates its 60th anniversary, it raises the bar on luxury as it welcomes its first five-star hotel residence: the White Pearl Lodges & Spas in Plagne Soleil. This brand-new ski-in, ski-out hotel has a variety of elegant accommodation, a heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool (the only one in La Plagne) plus a state-of-the-art Ô des Cimes spa with a whirlpool tub, sauna, Turkish bath, salt grotto, cardio training fitness room and a ski shop. To continue this trend, dine at UNION in Plagne Montalbert, where multi award-winning chef Phil Howard serves a wide-ranging assortment of delicious dishes. For a more active evening activity, why not test run a Moonbike? New this season, the 100% electric vehicle is a cross between a snow-scooter and a skidoo. Alternatively, try Yogi Ski Touring: beginning in Belle Plagne, click on touring skis for an invigorating climb to Les Inversens accompanied by Lisa-Pauline Leclercq (from Montagne Mer & Mouvement) and a ski instructor. At Les Inversens, tuck into a delicious breakfast before joining in with a session of yoga on the spacious terrace. Afterwards, ski back down the mountain, where Belle Plagne’s Deep Nature spa awaits…
FOR FOODIES…
La Plagne has a wide range of restaurants for the foodies of the ski world. Enjoy fresh pizzas with crispy bases at La Cantine, authentic grilled meats in Le Refuge, or a tasting menu at UNION. Alternatively, sign up to the new Aperitif Escape Game where you have to decode the clues to get to your drink. For a hearty, comforting meal then Le Chalet de Plan Bois is the place for you: here local cuisine is served in an intimate setting that feels ‘just like home’, and guests are allowed to wear slippers in the restaurant so they feel totally relaxed.
